LEWISTON, ME – An arrest has been made following a fire that damaged a wooden structure at Veterans Park in Lewiston on Wednesday night.
At approximately 9:00 p.m. on May 7, 2025, the Lewiston Fire Department responded to a blaze at 2 Main Street. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and contacted the Office of the State Fire Marshal to determine the cause.
Following an on-scene investigation, officials determined the fire was intentionally set. The structure, owned by the City of Lewiston and lacking electrical service, was valued at roughly $3,000.
According to investigators, 37-year-old Josh Kyle, an unhoused individual residing in Lewiston, admitted to lighting a blanket on fire inside the structure. The fire spread, leading to the building's destruction.
Kyle was arrested and transported to the Androscoggin County Jail.
The investigation was conducted collaboratively by the State Fire Marshal's Office, Lewiston Police Department, and Lewiston Fire Department. Authorities state the investigation remains ongoing.
