STRATHAM, NH — The Stratham Police Department is one step closer to achieving official state accreditation, as the agency undergoes its final assessment by the New Hampshire Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission (NHLEAC).
In a statement issued May 6, 2025, Chief Anthony J. King confirmed that the department has been working diligently for more than a year to meet the standards required for accreditation. NHLEAC accreditation is a voluntary process that recognizes professional excellence in law enforcement through compliance with 115 established standards.
To qualify, departments must demonstrate adherence to a set of 154 standards, which include providing documentation of 420 individual proofs of compliance. Accreditation would make Stratham only the third agency in New Hampshire to receive such recognition at the state level.
The process has been led by Chief King and Accreditation Manager/Admin Assistant Jenn Schauff, with internal staff participation and support from outside agencies. A team of assessors is currently reviewing department policies, procedures, and operational activities to verify compliance.
As part of the public assessment, Stratham residents and others are invited to submit comments by phone or email on May 15, 2025, between 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. at (603) 778-9691. Comments must be brief and focused on the department's ability to meet the NHLEAC standards.
A copy of the standards is available for public review on the NH Police Standards and Training Council's website at https://www.pstc.nh.gov. Comments can also be sent via email to Accreditation Manager Jenn Schauff at jschauff@strathampd.org or to NHLEAC Program Manager Sonya Robicheau at sonya.j.robicheau@dos.nh.gov.
