CONCORD, NH – Attorney General John Formella announced Tuesday that Tina Thomas, 54, of Raymond, New Hampshire, pled guilty to assaulting a town election officer during the March 28, 2023 Raymond Town and School Elections.
Thomas was charged with one Class B felony under RSA 659:41 for knowingly striking Town Moderator Pro Tem Jonathan Wood in the face while he was carrying out official election duties.
The court accepted a negotiated plea agreement. Thomas was sentenced in Rockingham County Superior Court to 12 months in the house of corrections, fully suspended for one year, contingent on good behavior and compliance with sentencing conditions. She is prohibited from contacting the victim during the suspension period and must complete ten hours of community service.
In accordance with Part I, Article 11 of the New Hampshire Constitution, Thomas also lost her right to vote in the state.
"This plea and sentence send a clear message that such conduct will not be tolerated in New Hampshire," said Attorney General Formella. "Election officials must be able to carry out their duties safely and without fear of violence or intimidation."
The case was prosecuted by Assistant Attorney General Matthew Conley and Senior Assistant Attorney General Brendan O'Donnell of the Election Law Unit. The investigation was led by Investigator Richard Tracy of the Election Law Unit and the Raymond Police Department.
